GMEX and Dr John McLellan delivered the main project outcomes from a 12-month research project focused in Mt Isa Inlier, northwest Queensland. This project “Advanced Understanding of Structural and Geochemical Controls on Mineralisation in the Eastern Mt Isa Inlier Using Innovative Techniques for Exploration” commenced in July 2015. The project used a combination of geomechanical modelling and a geochemical and structural focus on Cu-Au deposit styles and their host rocks applied to the eastern Mount Isa Block, Queensland’s premier metalliferous mining district. The novel approach of the geomechanical modelling is intended to provide an alternative but complementary dataset for exploration geologists to include within and to revitalize their targeting strategies.
